Fallen Settee

May 11, 2014 by twinoaksstudio

Hi everyone

I hope you are enjoying a beautiful Mother’s Day!

I have been busy working on pieces to bring with me to Lucketts Spring Market.  I can’t believe its next weekend!

I visited my local Habitat for Humanity Restore a couple of months ago.   They had a beautiful 100 year old settee with a lot of amazing carved details on it.  It had some “issues” though…..

My first reaction was to save the piece and to restore it.   Fix the crack and reupholster it.   It couldn’t be that bad, could it?

Then I got it home and started really examining it…..  Uh-oh…..

The poor old gal was riddled with cracks in key support areas.    I decided that it was time to switch from “save” to “salvage”.

settee back

I removed the back from the rest of the settee and applied a couple of coats of Annie Sloan Chalk paint in a custom shade of blue topped with Old Ochre.   I distressed it and applied clear and dark waxes.

I added chalk board inserts and here she is!

Here is the hand carved details up close.  Beautiful!

I will be bringing this with me to Lucketts Spring Market next weekend!   I hope to see you there!

I’m sad I’m missing Lucketts Spring Market this year, but I bet your chalkboard was a big hit!

Pauline, I was at Lucketts today (Sunday). I did not see you there.

      • Hi Pam
Sorry we missed each other! My booth backed up to the road the firehouse is on (not rte 15) and I was maybe 3 dealers away from the big grass parking lot that is farthest from Lucketts Store. (Between the guy with the funky bird houses and the Painted Drawer) Across from me was Sweet Clover’s huge tent. So sort of in the back corner. During a little lull on Sunday I wandered a little and chatted with other a couple of other vendors. My oldest daughter was manning my booth in my absence. She’s turning out to be a great sales girl 🙂 I hope you enjoyed the show. The weather was amazing 🙂
        Take care,
